17-year-old shot by police during attempted armed robbery at veterinary clinic

A 17-year-old man was shot by a Durham Regional Police officer in Pickering, Ontario, when the officer responded to a reported armed robbery in progress at a veterinary clinic on July 16.

According to a release from the Durham Regional Police, the officer arrived on the scene and confronted the young man, whose name is being withheld in accordance with juvenile protection laws. The officer then shot the man, who was transported to a nearby hospital. He was later transferred to a Toronto hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in serious but stable condition.

Major Crime Robbery Unit Investigators went to the Toronto hospital the next day to charge the man with robbery using imitation firearm, disguise with intent and weapons dangerous. A bail hearing was conducted at the hospital and the man was remanded.
