AAHA, Merial to kick off heartworm prevention campaign

Duluth, Ga.-The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and Merial want to recruit "heart guardians".

In fact, it is the theme of its newest public relations campaign in conjunction with April's heartworm awareness month.

The company reports that the goal of the initiative, "Be a Heart Guardian" is to raise awareness on the importance of heartworm prevention. The consumer-directed public relations campaign was created to reach pet owners across the country about the importance of heartworm prevention. A key message in the campaign also includes the important role veterinarians play in helping keep pets and families safe from zoonotic diseases, Merial says.

The company will make media materials available for veterinarians in the form of a "media CD," which includes matte press releases that can be customized to each veterinarian or clinic.
