Cornell plans to open satellite hospital near NYC
The hospital will be located in a new 20,000 square foot building, part of the $3 billion LEED-certified Harbor Point mixed-use urban redevelopment project, in Stamford, Conn. The development also will include a supermarket, 4,000 new luxury apartments and offices.
CUVS only will accept referral cases from local veterinarians and not function as a general practice. With 40 veterinarians and staff, Cornell says it will be the “largest and most comprehensive University-affiliated veterinary specialty/emergency and critical care satellite facility established to date.”
The referral hospital will offer high-end treatments and specialty services with access to expertise and equipment at Cornell’s main campus through videoconferencing. Students will be able to gain hands-on experience at CUVS thanks to on-site housing accommodations, and the facility also will include a tiered auditorium and space for continuing education services for veterinarians in the New York metro area.
