MADISON, WIS. — The University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine is recruiting for a clinical trial designed to evaluate pain relief in post-surgical patients.

Area veterinarians with clients whose dogs need forelimb or hind-limb amputations are encouraged to refer them to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital to participate in the trial.

The trial is an injectible liposome-encapsulated opiate pain relief. Clients will receive $500 toward their hospital bill and the animal will get frequent monitoring.

The goal is to test the efficacy of a new formulation of a common pain reliever, which, because it is injectible and long-lasting, shows promise of providing extended pain relief without repeated injections or constant rate infusions.
