Splint application: General indications

 

• Unstable and painful fractures and joint subluxations and luxations where immobilization can be done, including the joints proximal and distal

• Initial assessment shows an unstable extremity fracture for which the splint can prevent further soft-tissue and neurovascular injury

• Muscle, ligament and tendon injuries that will benefit from immobilization

• Following operative repairs of injuries where immobilization will be protective

• Treatment of open and closed wounds where movement will disrupt healing

• Prevention of joint movement that would compromise intravenous infusions

• Emergency first-aid of suspected joint, bone, ligament, tendon or muscle injury

• Prevention of further disruption of suspected weakened or injured limb structures
