"The research these ACVIM board-certified veterinary specialists are involved in benefits not only your dog, cat or horse, but potentially your son, wife, mother or father," says Marcie Rhysling, MA, ACVIM's junior associate executive director. "The Heroes' studies are examples of how research into naturally occurring diseases in animals can help identify therapeutic treatments and, in some cases, cure similar diseases in humans."

The winning veterinarians will be recognized at the 2010 ACVIM Forum in Anaheim, Calif., June 9-12.
