Oklahoma Senator calls for repeal of new pet breeder law

Oklahoma City, Okla. — Freshman Sen. Josh Brecheen (R-Coalgate) is asking fellow legislators to repeal the state's recently passed Commercial Pet Breeders Act.
Brecheen pre-filed the bill for introduction on Feb. 7. He argues that the state should not expand government when it's facing a budgetary shortfall.

The Commercial Pet Breeders Act, passed in May, requires annual inspections of licensed commercial pet breeders. The legislation also created a board charged with creating and enforcing minimum standards of care.

The state’s Board of Commercial Pet Breeders explains the program is cost-neutral to taxpayers and will be funded through the board's fee structure.
