Drs. Rick Rothfuss and Rick Mather also failed to follow Federal Drug Administration procedures for compounded medicines, according to the KHRC.

Earlier this month, KHRC investigators searched two vehicles owned by the veterinarians as they treated horses at the Red Mile in Lexington, Ky. The investigators seized records and unidentified substances.

Rothfuss and Mather each were fined $10,000 and suspended for 182 days, which prevents them from practicing at any race track during the suspension.

The investigation is on-going as the KHRC awaits test results on the substances and analyzes computer records.
