New book chronicles largest horse rescue
Ky Mortensen, director of advancement for the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine's Equine Health Studies program, compiled a series of firsthand accounts of how the school's equine rescue team saved hundreds of horses in the wake of Hurricane Katrina nearly three years ago. The book, Horses of the Storm: The Incredible Rescue of Katrina's Horses, also includes tips for handling horses during disasters. It is available online in paperback through Barnes & Noble and Amazon. A portion of the book's proceeds will go to the LSU equine health studies program.
