NASHVILLE — Shortly after the federal government re-opened the door to horse slaughter for human consumption in the United States, Tennessee legislators are working to keep it out of the state.

House Bill 3489, introduced Jan. 26 and referred to the state's Agriculture Committee Feb. 1, not only bans the slaughter of horses for human consumption, but it also bans the export of horses for slaughter for human consumption and horse meat for human consumption.
