University of Wisconsin veterinary school cuts may force closure of exotic pet program

DVM360 MAGAZINE

Madison, Wis. — Officials at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Veterinary Medicine might soon be forced to close the school's exotic animal program due to budget cuts.

After an $800,000 cut and the elimination of one of the program’s two faculty positions, officials are scrambling to find an alternative solution. In addition to eliminating student training on exotic animals, the program's demise would mean local residents would have to find a new clinic to treat their exotic pets, the university reports.
