The so-called BSE rule became effective April 27, but renderers will have additional time to comply with new requirements. The FDA's established compliance date is Oct. 26.

The new guidance document should help slaughter facilities and farms supplying offal and dead livestock to renderers to understand their responsibilities in regard to the new rule.
