Overland Park, Kan. -- The Association for Women Veterinarians Foundation (AWVF) awarded $1,500 scholarships to seven veterinary students selected from a pool of about 100 applicants.

The choices were based on leadership potential, career path and the student's influence in veterinary medicine in and out of school. The scholarships are funded by donations to the foundation from veterinary companies. This year's donors included Central Life Sciences, Virbac, Fort Dodge Animal Health, Hill's Pet Nutrition, P&G/The Iams Co. and Merial and Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health.

Recipients were Jennel Bigrigg, a third-year veterinary student at the Ohio State University; Ami Krasner, a third-year student at North Carolina State University; Michelle Creamer, a third-year student at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine; Rachel Cumberbatch, a second-year student at Purdue University; Angela Chang, a third-year student at Texas A&M University; Cara Clouse, a second-year student at the University of Tennessee; and Mia Lieberman, a second-year student at the University of California-Davis.
