Arkansas -- Following a request from the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association (Arkansas VMA), the state Department of Finance and Administration issued written guidelines on sales and other tax regulations for veterinary practices.
A proposal is in the works by the Arkansas finance department to make retail sales of items at a veterinary clinic taxable. Veterinary services and boarding as part of medical treatment are currently tax-exempt, so are medications prescribed by the veterinarian. The state promises to make the final rules available to veterinarians through the Arkansas VMA.
The written guidelines are aimed at helping practitioners make sure they are in compliance with any changes to the state’s tax rules.
