Chicken rawhide chips recalled
The contamination could involve one or more bags in lot code JC23282 of the 2-pound plastic bags of the rawhide chips. The lot represents about 4,850 bags distributed to a national retailer. Hartz didn't detect Salmonella in its own tests, but an independent laboratory did find a presence of the bacteria in a single bag, according to the company. Hartz says it is investigating the test results and a possible contamination source, but in the meantime is cooperating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the voluntary recall.
No cases of sick animals or humans were reported. Consumers are advised to contact Hartz at 1-800-275-1414 with any questions or for product reimbursement.
