Next > A team of 10 veterinarians successfully completed an experimental skull surgery on a green sea turtle July 19 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. The turtle was in desperate need of the operation to close a three-inch gash to the head that had exposed the protective membrane sheathing its tiny brain. |

| Holden is now recovering at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, where veterinarians are monitoring his progress. He will eventually be released. |
