Dog for Dog voluntarily recalled its Dogsbutter Brand All Natural, Jarred Peanut Butter Treat for Dogs with manufacturing dates of May 1 through Sept. 24, 2012, and Universal Product Code (UPC) 003050 due to risk of Salmonella contamination.

Dog for Dog works with Sunland Industries, a regional producer of peanut butter products in more than 70 brands—including Dogsbutter—through retailers such as Trader Joe’s and Target. The recall was initiated after 29 people reported Salmonella Bredeney PFGE-matching illnesses across 18 states including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia and Washington during the period of June through September 2012, according to a report issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

No Dogsbutter samples have tested positive for Salmonella nor have any illnesses been reported in dogs. For a complete list of products affected by the recall, go to fda.gov.
