Tufts received $1.2 million grant to study liver disease
Webster, an associate professor at Tufts, says she hopes to identify therapies that will enable liver cells to withstand exposure to viral infections or toxic substances. The symptoms of liver disease in animals and humans vary and can mimic symptoms associated with other diseases making a diagnosis complex, Webster explains. The five-year study is aimed at understanding how liver cells survive after being attacked by infection. The study will focus research at the cellular level, according to the university.
