Veterinarians may have to provide new information to clients

DVM360 MAGAZINE

HARRISBURG, PA. — Veterinarians in Pennsylvania may be required to provide pet owners better documentation about medication uses, dosages and contraindications if drugs are administered outside of the veterinary hospital.

Senate Bill 768, introduced March 7, would mandate that veterinarians provide clients with information sheets from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that explain product information and possible adverse events associated with a prescribed medication.

The information sheets would be required any time a prescription drug was administered outside the veterinary clinic.

The bill was referred to the Pennsylvania's Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee on March 7.
