Wisconsin cat is the first in more than a year to test positive for H1N1
The 6-year-old cat fell ill after the owner reported flu-like symptoms. AVMA says the cat’s owner is believed to have been the source of the infection. A second cat in the household also was tested for H1N1 after it displayed symptoms of a severe respiratory disease, but the tests came back negative. Both cats had to be euthanized after failing to respond to treatment, AVMA reports. This case is a reminder to pet owners the some viruses can be passed between humans and animals, and pet owners should monitor their pets’ health closely and seek veterinary advice should there be any signs of illness, AVMA says. |
