SLIDESHOW: Virginia area veterinarians missing in Glacier National Park found safe
Friends, co-workers and clients excited for Hiser and Peckens to return home in coming days.

Veterinarians Jason Hiser, DVM, and Neal Peckens, DVM, DACVIM (cardiology), were reported missing Oct. 13 when the friends did not return home on their scheduled flight from a hiking trip in Glacier National Park in Montana. To the joy of their friends, family, co-workers and clients, Hiser and Peckens were found by searchers the afternoon of Oct. 22 in good condition nearly a week after they set out on the hike.

"Everybody was just ecstatic that they had been found and were safe," der Au Michael, Broad Street Veterinary Hospital administrator says. “If any two could get through that it was these two.”



Veterinarian Jason Hiser, DVM, practices at Broad Street Veterinary Hospital in Richmond, Va. His veterinary areas of interest include surgery, ophthalmology and dermatology. Hiser and his wife live in Richmond.

The campground at Two Medicine is in the area near where Hiser and Peckens were hiking in Glacier National Park in Montana. Conditions in the park were challenging as rescue crews battled 18 inches of snow on trails, snow drifts, limited visibility and very windy conditions.

The Two Medicine area near where Hiser and Peckens were hiking in Glacier National Park in Montana. Despite bad weather, crews continued searching for the men locating their car Oct. 12 and later a recently used fire ring and tracks giving hope that the missing men would be found.
