FDA approves hyperthyroidism drug

Overland Park, Kan. -- The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approved a drug to treat hyperthyroidism in cats.

Felimazole will be the first and only FDA veterinary approved methimazole on the market in the United States, according to it manufacturer, Dechra Veterinary Prodcuts LLC.

The coated tablets are available in 2.5 mg. and 5 mg.

Felimazole will be available within a few months, according to Doug Hubert, director of sales and marketing for Dechra.
