Idexx Laboratories, Inc. introduces the new Snap® Feline Heartworm Antigen test kit, an in-clinic diagnostic test that detects antigen from Dirofilaria immitis infection in cats. The Snap Feline Antigen test is the first pet-side test licensed exclusively for the detection of heartworm antigens in cats, the company says. Feline heartworm disease occurs worldwide and was first reported in the United States in 1922. Signs of infection include vomiting, coughing, dyspnea and acute death. Supportive therapy is available for infected cats, as well as preventive options for cats that are at risk of infection, the company says.
