Interstate swine movement requirements altered
Washington-Swine moving within a swine production system can move interstate without individual identification requirements, according to a recent ruling by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Swine producers in a single swine production system are required to sign agreements with the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and involved state governments to monitor animal health and be able to conduct traceback of the animals if necessary.
Accredited veterinarians will visit premises in the swine production system frequently for animal testing and inspection. Those swine that are free from signs of any communicable disease during the most recent inspection can be moved interstate.
