ST. JOSEPH, MO. — Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica Inc. received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for the use of Metacam® (meloxicam) injection in felines. The product is labeled for a one-time subcutaneous injection at a dose of .14 mg/pound for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery, spaying and neutering.

Metacam is the first and only NSAID class of drugs that is approved in the United States for use in cats, the company says.
