Headed to the movies this weekend? If so, you might get a dose of veterinary medicine with your popcorn. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is releasing an advertisement in movie theaters in select cities across the country beginning June 21 to promote veterinary medicine during its yearlong 150th anniversary celebration.
“The goal of the ad is to promote the veterinary profession to the public and to highlight the many other things that veterinarians do beyond treating pet cats and dogs,” says Douglas Aspros, DVM, president of the AVMA. “We hope that this will help boost public awareness of the important role veterinarians fill in our society, and across the globe.”
The advertisement will play before movie previews in correlation with the NCM FirstLook pre-trailer advertisements in 160 theaters and 2,760 screens across the United States. Cities on the play list include Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, San Diego and Washington, D.C. An estimated 3.2 million people will see the ad, which will be in theaters from June 21-27 and play before the following movies:
The AVMA is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a number of programs, including an interactive Smithsonian Museum exhibit sponsored by Zoetis, which will premier in Chicago at the AVMA Annual Convention July 19–23. Learn more about the celebration and find a full list of the theaters showing the trailer at avma.org/150.
