Red Flannel cat food recalled for possible Salmonella contamination
Minnesota-based PMI Nutrition voluntarily recalled 20-pound bags of its Red Flannel Cat Formula cat food due to possible Salmonella contamination. Although there have been no reports of illness, the recall was issued after routine testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Detroit District Office.
Affected products have a lot number of 096 13 SM L2 1A and a “best by” date of May 6, 2014. The lot number can be found on the back of the affected 20-pound bags in a white box on the lower righthand side. The UPC code for the recalled product is 7 42869 00058 5.
Red Flannel Cat Formula is manufactured by a third-party manufacturer for PMI and distributed in Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
The FDA advises customers to immediately discontinue use of and return the product to their dealer for a full refund or replacement.
