Veterinarian found dead in burning vehicle

Anthony Walter Patrick Basher, DVM, DACVO, DACVS, 54, of California, was found dead inside a burning vehicle at approximately 7:48 p.m. Nov. 9 in the 4500 block of N. Caminito Callado in Tuscon, Ariz., according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Responding deputies found a Mercedes-Benz sedan fully engulfed in flames. A nearby homeowner attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. The Rural Metro Fire Department put out the flames and discovered the body located in the driver’s seat of the car.

Arson and Homicide Unit detectives are working on the ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances and cause of death. Results will be determined followed by forensic analysis following an autopsy and through evidence gathered at the scene.

Basher specialized in ophthalmology and is reported to have worked with Sea World and the San Diego Zoo and was double board certified in ophthalmology and general surgery.
