Washington — The release of a long-awaited national study on veterinary workforce trends has been delayed for the eighth time.

The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) announced Dec. 29 that the previously scheduled 2011 release of the veterinary workforce study would be delayed until early 2012.

The study, which began in 2006, was commissioned to examine the kinds of jobs available to veterinarians and assess future demand for veterinarians in existing and new sectors. An analysis of the current and future veterinary school capacity was also slated. The final report will contain the study's findings as well as options for meeting society's future veterinary workforce needs, NAS reports.
